A long, long time ago, a poor woodcutter and his wife had two children named Hansel and Gretel. Their mother died when they were young. Hansel and Gretel were very sad. Soon, their father remarried but their stepmother was very cruel. She had an idea. Her idea was to take the children deep into the forest and leave them there. One night, the stepmother told the idea to the woodcutter. Hansel was listening. The next day, the stepmother asked Hansel and Gretel to go walk with her in the forest, Hansel put some bread in his pockets. While they were walking, Hansel would take a small piece of bread and drop it on the ground so that they could find their way back home. The stepmother took the children deep into the forest and told them to wait while she looked for food. Hansel looked for the pieces of bread but the birds had eaten all the pieces. They were lost in the forest and were hungry and tired. They found a small path and started walking. After walking for a long time, they saw a cottage made of chocolate, candies, and cake. “Look, Hansel! A house made of food!” Gretel shouted. They both started eating the cottage.
A witch lived in the cottage. When she saw Hansel and Gretel, she wanted to eat them. She grabbed the children and locked them in a cage. The witch said she would make a soup out of Hansel and eat him first. She started boiling a huge pot of water for the soup. Gretel was small and skinny. While the witch was not looking, she squeezed out of the cage. Then she pushed the witch into the boiling water. The witch screamed and died. Hansel and Gretel found treasure all around the cottage. They carried it home with them. Their stepmother had died and their father was very happy to see his children again. Hansel, Gretel, and their father never went hungry again! The End
